After The Election

While the right-wing propaganda machine begins making spurious claims concerning Iran's role in 9/11(because they worked so well with getting people riled up to invade Iraq) and the US shipping military equipment ill suited for Afghanistan's mountains regions to Afghanistan, one has to wonder, is an invasion of Iran George Bush's October surprise to help John McCain win the election?
The US has already began military operations in Pakistan with out that government's approval, now the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has called for military operations in Pakistan's tribal regions along the Afghanistan border, virtually a declaration of war. This will in effect have Iran encircled by the US army, in Iraq to the west, Afghanistan to the northeast, and Pakistan to the east. But is the Bush/Cheney (or Cheney/Bush, if you prefer) administration, so eager to confront Russia in Georgia, that eager to start all out war with Russia in Iran right before the election? After all George Bush will attack Iran if he is told.
The notion that the American people will fall in line with another war is somewhat ridiculous. If they would, the Bush administration wouldn't be sneaking round in Pakistan, hoping the majority of television watchers are too obsessed with the new television season to be concerned with the machinations of the Bush Doctrine. Even the new GOP VP pick isn't familiar with the Bush Doctrine. (While most citizens can be forgiven their ignorance on this issue, somebody running for the second most position in our political structure shouldn't need a journalist to define it for her)
A war with Iran will drive crude oil prices even higher than they are already, which is something the GOP doesn't need blamed on them right before the election. There's no way to spin the whole off shore drilling as a solution to a permanent perpetual war mongering effecting gas prices. However, after the election, no matter who wins (although, the GOP will do anything to suppress the voting rights of Democrats and ensure a Republican president), the Bush regime will surely make it's move against Iran.

How indeed! It seems that one of the planks in the Republican platform this year is reform. Yeah, and when the junkie in charge of the medicine cabinet says he's going to fix things, he doesn't mean with a hammer and saw. And yet, there are people who are stupid enough to buy it, because like Junior O'Daniel, they are dim and thick and incurious.
The themes of the recent convention were all hypocritical in their own right, reform, service prosperity and peace.
Peace?
McCain has already suggested he may reinstate the draft, hardly something we'd need in a time of peace. And McCain was the one who was pushing for an invasion of Iraq on the morning of 9/11. With McCain's incompetent and poor VP pick has stated that war with Russia may be needed, and the imbecile-in-chief is sending special forces into Pakistan, there is no "peace" in the Republican agenda.
It's as if they just took buzzwords that resonate well with American voters and didn't put anything behind them. It's pointless and meaningless, like applying the term maverick to a politician who voted with the president over 90% of the time.

Give Them Something To Think About

So Adam McKay thinks the Democrats are going to lose this thing. Typical Democrat defeatist attitude, we can't win when the odds are stacked against us. I say if you feel that way, you're probably right, self-fulfilling prophecies and all. There is a way and it's a s simple as ythis:

The RNC spent a lot of time and flag waving reminding us all of 9/11. But what they didn't tell us was that the whole thing could have been avoided if a president, their president had been a little more vigilant. We all know about the August 6 2001 PDB delivered to President Bush. If he had done his job as Commander-In-Chief, there would have been no tragedy on that day. He allowed the terrorists to screw with us.

Sure, teenage pregnancies happen in the best of homes and is a fairly common occurrence. Teenagers always have and always will engage in premarital intercourse, it's a fact of life. Their hormones are beyond their control at that age, and they feel they are invincible. But just like the Republicans have sent our troops to face the enemy in Afghanistan and Iraq without sufficient body armor, Sarah Palin sent her daughter into an age old battle with out adequate protection.

Barack Obama has stated that in this campaign, families should be left out of it. And under normal circumstances, that would be fine. But we're not dealing with human beings here, we're dealing with neocons. People with no conscience, because a conscience stands in the way between doing what's right, and fulfilling an unreal agenda. People who will do anything to win, which is why they always do. And if the situations were reversed, they'd make a field of hay from it, all to serve their own program: endless tax cuts for endless profits made from endless war. And to further their plan, they need to sell us their superiority in matters of national security.

But, if Sarah Palin couldn't protect her daughter from guys who wanted to screw with her, how's she going to protect us from terrorists who want to screw with us?

So ask your friends, your family and your neighbors this question. Put it to your co-workers, acquaintances, strangers you may meet. You may not get an answer,but you're sure to start them to thinking. And once they do that, the rest will fall in place.

Why Not Me?

Much has been made of the qualifications of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, and while most Republican arguments are typically spurious, it started me to thinking: why couldn't I be elected president?
I've been interviewed by the foreign press in a country that the US may be at war with very quickly.
Also, I would not exploit a national tragedy for political gain. I believe that while all Americans may love their country, there are times when they feel it is heading in the wrong direction.
I do not attend church, so I don't listen to the ravings of a power mad demented lunatic preacher over stepping his tax exempt status. I hear no voices in my head, God Satan or any other than my own, which only pops up to tell me what an idiot I've been when I make a mistake. Since even I realize how grating the sound of my voice can be, I try not to make any mistakes at all.
I am far from an elitist. I live in an apartment complex, don't eat much arugula, and drive a Chevrolet. It doesn't even have a CD player in it, just a cassette deck and a radio. The closest I've come to rubbing elbows with celebrities was when I urinated next to Butthole Surfers lead singer Gibby Haynes in the basement bathroom of ST. Andrew's Hall. And that was like, twenty years ago.
As a consumer, I understand the need to stick to a budget. If there is something that I want, I understand that I have to bring in extra revenue to do so, or do with out. Therefore, I would slash our defense spending in half, knowing that by doing so, we would still spend more than any other nation on defense. One way to cut spending is to stop starting so many wars. Rather than tough talk a country like Iran, which is fulfilling it's obligations under the NPT, I would encourage them to continue on with their use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as long as they continue to follow IAEA guidelines.
And if there are those of you who are paranoid, and feel that the US should bully other nations to bend to our will, I will raise your taxes so you can feel comfortable knowing that freedom isn't free, and you're doing your patriotic best to waylay your paranoid fantasies.
As president, I would understand the subtle differences between Shi'ite and Sunni. I actually know how to use the internet, so it would not be a mystery to me. I will not change my positions on issues for political expediency, rather, I will make decisions based on close examinations of the facts. Nor will I attempt to curb any investigation into wrong doing on my part, or anyone in my office, and unlike the McCain camp, I am always willing to talk to the media.
Unlike John McCain, I was born in the USA. And unlike Sarah Palin, I am not racist or sexist.
In short, your vote for me would get you the most honest government we've had in at least eight years, maybe sixteen, so why not?

Republicans Attempt To Dupe The Television Watchers

I'll admit that I haven't been watching the RNC. To me it seemed to be too much like American Idol, all ceremony and no substance. Who wants to watch a bunch of white people cheer and fight to keep their tax cuts for the millions they've made defrauding the American taxpayer in little thing called the war in Iraq? Who wants to see a bunch of racists criticize Sen. Obama for being uppity? No, I'd rather write questionable blog posts based on satirical pieces I took as truth (see previous post).
But now, I don't feel so bad about being suckered in, not after I read that fake soldiers were used in a video shown at the RNC. I guess they couldn't use real soldiers because Obama nets more military donors than John McCain. I guess they remember who cut their benefits in a time of war. And that;s something that all the flag waving and questionable displays of patriotism can't cover up.

Even When It Was Palin's Fault I Knew It Was Really Hilary's

There was a time when the Republican party was all about personal responsibility. That was before the Clinton years where they could hang all their failures on. 9/11? It was all Bill Clinton's fault. The failing economy, the collapsing housing market and even Bristol Palin's teenage pregnancy are all part of the Clinton legacy.
Whoa! Back it up! Did Grover Norquist really say "If it wasn't for Hillary’s long time support of loose morals and whipping up women to think they can make decisions about their own bodies, none of this would have happened"? I guess this means that the McCain plan to woo disenfranchised Clinton supporters by naming a female VP has backfired, and so, it's back to the familiar right wing punching bags. If it were true that Hilary's behind the Palin pregnancy, wouldn't Chelsea have a brood of about ten little puppies by now? What feminists advocate is woman taking responsibility for their own bodies to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place, not casual sex without precautions. Clearly the blame lies squarely with Sarah Palin for not teaching her daughter proper morals, or how to engage in premarital sex without damning consequences. Or maybe by acting as a baby machine herself, Gov. Palin set a bad example that all women really are good for is pleasing a man and squeezing out babies.
And no, the media is not out to get Sarah Palin, they just know that Americans salivate at a good tawdry and juicy story, and are milking it for all it's worth. Oh, unless you were talking about the fact that Palin wants the investigation into her alleged wrong doings called off.

Maverick Thinking Or Pretzeled Logic?

What happened to your pledge to run a respectful campaign?

MCCAIN: Oh, I think it's respectful. But first of all, I also at that time asked Senator Obama to go to town hall meetings with me. We could appear in front of the American people the way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy had pledged to do.

I'll tell you, that changes the tenor of a campaign, I know because I've done them in the past. And unfortunately Senator Obama refused to go to town hall meetings with me and appear before the American people so we can both answer their questions and comments.

There's a bruise on my sternum from when my jaw dropped following John McCain making this statement that, in effect, McCain has a right to go negative because Obama refused to do townhall meetings (which McCain prefers, and does well at)with McCain. Is this over reaction? Well how about John McCain canceling a scheduled appearance on Larry King Live because a journalist on CNN insist Tucker Bounds answer a question concerning Sarah Palin's lack of experience versus Barack Obama's, which McCain felt "crossed a line". Yeah, the line between propaganda and actual journalism. You would think being a maverick, McCain wouldn't recognize any line to be crossed, but when you're a Republican you live and die by your double standards.
Consider these inflammatory remarks by Sarah Palin's pastor:

We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die.

No wonder the website with his speeches and sermons has been shut down.

The Party's Over Before It Even Begins

The McCain-Palin ticket plays out like one bad sitcom: He's the gruff but hotheaded senior senator from Arizona, she's his impossibly hot but shrewish(running)mate, can they learn to get along? Wackiness ensues!
In the meantime, the opening ceremonies for the Republican convention have been canceled due to Hurricane Gustav heading towards New Orleans. I guess one mass of hot air threatening the country was enough! Maybe no one will notice all the missing Senate Republicans, avoiding being branded by the brand the Bush administration completely destroyed, in part due to their police state tactics.

From The People Who Brought You Ketchup As A Vegetable, Pt. 2

A couple posts back, I ran a lampoon of John McCain's proposed health care policy based on statements he made about sunscreen. Well, that lampoon made more sense than the latest health care proposal put out by the McCain campaign. The McCain proposal would require the Bureau of Census to reclassify everybody by how they would pay their hospital bills. Since emergency rooms by law cannot turn a patient away, the McCain camp reasons that everybody is covered with some form of health insurance, therefore, there are no uninsured Americans. No, I am not making this up.
So, just like the Reagan administration had ketchup reclassified as a vegetable to fill federal requirements for school lunches, McCain wants to reclassify those without health insurance as insured based on a law that is for emergency use only. That's not going to drive up health care costs at all, what with every ER in the country filled with people who need treatment for non-emergency injuries and illnesses forced to wait with those in dire need of medical attention. This isn't a plan, it's pure and utter contempt for middle and working class people from somebody whose health care is provided by taxpayers, the very people of whom McCain displays contempt.
I guess John McCain feels we should all marry a wealthy heiress who's family fortune was based on her father's connections to organized crime. And perhaps, McCain has forgotten that for five and a half years, his health care needs were provided to him.

An Elephant Never Forgets, But The Republicans Can't Remember A Fucking Thing

For years now, the GOP, in concert with the corporate media have engaged in institutionalized hypocrisy, a double standard where what's wrong for Democrats is perfectly fine for Republicans. One example of this is all the hoopla made over the John Edwards affair, and the numerous affairs of Bill Clinton, while giving Republican adulterers like John McCain, Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani a free pass. And this from the supposed "party of family values". But sometimes, in their rush to ridicule, they often will trip over themselves.
Another example of this is the derisive comments from the GOP concerning the back drop for Obama's acceptance speech, which has attracted all kinds of negative comments from the Republican party. What they don't tell you is that George W Bush used a similar backdrop for his 2004 acceptance speech. I guess it's OK for Bush to use one, he was a frat boy at one of the most exclusive colleges in the US (but that doesn't make him an elitist), and them frat boys are steeped in Greek culture. And so, with out a whiff of irony, the same shitheads that supported Bush in 2004 are now criticizing Obama. I guess the idle rich have nothing better to do.
Oh yeah, it's only a matter of time before McCain reminds us that for five and a half years, he didn't have any columns.

This Should Be Over

They say that a country gets the leaders it deserves, and if John McCain wins the election in November, it will because of a bunch of moronic Hillary supporters who will be protesting outside the Democratic convention. Having participated in protests in the past, I will unequivocally state they are an exercise in futility, unless, of course, you have the world's news media at your disposal looking to embarrass that arugula chewing, martini sipping, non-bowling elitist by any method available. The corporate media may have shown a bias (DUH), but it seemed to be against the Democratic front runner, not just Hillary.
These people are so Clintonatonic that they'd rather not vote and have McCain win than put someone more in touch with their mental faculties in the White House. My advice to them? Build a Goddamned bridge and get the fuck over it! Primary season is long over, your candidate has thrown her support behind the presumptive nominee, pissing and moaning about it isn't going to change a thing.
This election is still the Democrats to lose. However, I won't support a party full of people who seem more intent on fulfilling their own electoral fantasies than doing what's right for the country. That's why I'm voting for Cynthia McKinney.

Unfit For Command

Quick question: How many houses do you own? Not how many houses have you lived in, or how many houses did you stay at, but how many properties do you have in your name? Most of us people can answer that with maybe one, or possibly two, or three, some rental property, we all keep tabs on what we own because as responsible home owners, we need to keep up these properties lest they fall into disrepair. Well, John McCain has no idea how many homes he owns.
When you mention the fact that McCain is unaware of how many homes he owns to his campaign, or the slew of McCain apologists within the corporate media, their response is give him a break, he was a POW! As The Carpetbagger Report points out, a noun, a verb and prisoner of war is McCain's excuse for all his mistakes. The fact that he cheated on his first wife with his now second wife? He was a POW!. It has become a standard McCain campaign defense from criticism for things like his health care proposals, a fall back position to be exploited at every opportunity, or as a defense against every accusation. As with Bush, who couldn't be criticized for five years because of 9/11, McCain cannot be criticized for events that happened thirty years ago.
But to those who spent time with McCain in the Hanoi Hilton, McCain's finger should be nowhere near the red button. The right wing likes to paint McCain as a "war hero", while others have the temerity to ask what has he actually done to earn the "war hero" qualification? Drop bombs on civilians? Lose an Air Force jet fighter?
It should be obvious to anybody who has two brain cells to rub together that if events that happened over thirty years ago are still having a negative effect on John McCain's behavior today, that maybe he shouldn't be in the White House. Perhaps he shouldn't even be in the Senate. John McCain belongs in a veteran's home, where, hopefully, he can receive the counseling he needs to get himself beyond the events in the past. We don't need him being excused for annihilating the planet because he was, well, you know, a POW.

Mr. 9/11 To Address Republican Convention

Rudy Giuliani is set to give the keynote address at the Republican convention in September. The theme for his address will be "Country First", a bit hypocritical when you realize that John McCain has a plan to send 8000 jobs out of Ohio. Four days will be devoted to "service, reform, prosperity and peace".
So we know what to expect from this farce, lots of flag waving and invocations of 9/11 from the man who destroyed the evidence from the Twin Towers before forensics could examine it. And for all you beer swilling television watching morons who think that the explosion from the full fuel tanks caused the steel to melt, steel melts at 2500 degrees Farenheit , jet fuel, which is essentially modified kerosene, has a flash point of 1200 degrees Farenheit, less than the half required to melt the steel frames. And if you think that items within the structure burned hot enough to melt the frames, let's hope you're not meaning the fire retardant asbestos which filled the building and would have cost the Port Authority over $1 billion dollars to have removed. Perhaps Rudy was trying to hide the evidence of thermate on physical samples.
So the GOP will wave flags and prattle on about service, like how their candidate served his country in a POW camp in North Vietnam, reform, which is kind of hard to run on when you're the incumbent, prosperity, which means that the base has gotten richer while the rest of us struggle under their middle class breaking policies, and peace, from the party of the administration that has started more wars than it has troops to fight, and always based on the most specious reasoning. All of this will be brought to you courtesy of ExxonMobil, which is one of the companies doing extremely well under the Bush regime, and certainly will try to ensure they squeeze every last drop of blood from the working class in the McCain administration.

Farcical Bureau of Investigation

The FBI has announced they will present scientific evidence it has against the suspect in the anthrax case. Well, since the hair samples they had didn't match, you gotta wonder what is the scope of the evidence they have? Or is it merely going to take them until next week to manufacture evidence? Why haven't they investigated the one person caught on camera entering the anthrax storage area with out authorization? If the FBI can't find murder suspects in one killing where a bunch of undergrads could, how can we expect them to locate a suspect in the anthrax killings? The FBI seems better suited to smear campaigns based on outright lies than doing any investigative work.
Maybe it's because that person may be able to implicate the true mastermind behind the attacks.

So corporate shill, pseudo country music artist and lynching advocate Toby Keith thinks that Barack Obama talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian.? I guess somewhere in Mr. Keith's beer addled brain, all black people are supposed to behave the way they are portrayed in the movies and television, as criminal gang leaders with less of a grasp of the American English language than Keith himself possesses.
Somewhere in Mr. Keith's tiny mind, he imagines Sen. Obama reverting back to his gangsta ways the day after the election, wearing his jeans down to his knees, with his boxers proudly displayed, an over sized tee shirt covering up the gat in the crack of his ass. Perhaps he fears that Barack will put a stripper pole in Air Force One, a zebra skin rug on the floor of the Oval Office, and totally pimp out the Presidential limousine.
It's easy to see why Obama intimidates Toby. Obama has style, while Mr. Keith still wears those flannel-shirts-with-the-sleeves-ripped-off that Bruce Springsteen stopped wearing over twenty years ago. Sen. Obama has class, something that White Trash With Money can never have. Not only that, Obama has a tendency to draw bigger crowds than Toby Keith, especially overseas in Europe.
One things for certain, for all his flag waving jingoist and chauvinst patriotism, Toby Keith can't see Barack Obama for what he really is: an American.

McCain's Health Care Policy Is Nothing But Sunscreen

In a speech last week, Sen. John McCain outlined his health care proposal:

He urged "all Americans to wear sunscreen, particularly this summer, to stay out of the sun as much as possible

Now McCain has a position that’s frankly ludicrous. He suggested if we all wore sunscreen, hat we would solve the problem. Think about it. You ought to take that clip. I think that clip is far more devastating than today because it’s loony toons. What is he thinking?
Sure, wearing sunscreen may prevent burns that may lead to melanoma, but does nothing to help the nearly 47 million Americans with out health insurance coverage, nor does it do anything to stop the rising cost of health care for all Americans. In fact his whole policy is just one big handout to Big Pharma. Americans need solutions for existing problems, not ones that may occur down the road. It's as if suggesting keeping our tires inflated will solve all energy problems.

Yeah, Sure, Blame The Dead Guy

Looking to wrap up the anthrax letter investigation before another administration took power and might have investigated possible malfeasance by the current one, a possible suspect in the anthrax letter investigation committed suicide today. Never mind that he warned of possible anthrax contamination at the Fort Detrick USAMRIID, or that videotape had caught someone else entering the lab with out authorization, after he had been released from his job for racially motivated attacks on a co-worker.
Never mind that taking a whole bottle of Tylenol 3 with codeine would cause you to vomit before it could kill you, or that Tylenol 3 is a prescription drug, you know, because of the codeine. You may damage your liver before it kills you, which wouldn't be immediate.(according to Snopes)
The main conspiracy is that the government was behind the anthrax attacks (which is why people in the Bush administration began taking Cipro on September 10). The letters were only mailed to key Democrats who may have stood in the way of passing the Patriot Act. Also to the photo editor at The STAR, which had been publishing pictures of the Bush twins underage drinking and falling down drunk. The letters were written to cast suspicion on Arabs, even though the spores came from an Army biological weapon lab (which, isn't that illegal?) at a time when rhetoric and propaganda had been ramped up for war with Iraq.
At first the FBI spent it's time and energy on a suspect who later successfully sued them for completely destroying his life. Which left the question unanswered, who did mail the anthrax? Until now, of course, and now that Dr. Ivins is dead, no big cash settlement to pay out because dead men can't fight you in court.

Rising Heroin Use Among Teenagers:It's A Good Thing!

In pre-invasion Afghanistan, the Taliban had successfully eradicated the opium poppy cultivation trade. Now, since the US led invasion of that country, Afghanistan provides 93% of the world's heroin production, or about $4 billion dollars in street value. So, not only are we losing the war on terrorism there, we are also losing the war on drugs. Is there anything the Bush administration can't botch?
Some people have accused US puppet Hamid Karzai of being soft on opium farming, even going so far as to protect the narcotics traffickers and opium producers because they are political allies.
So, with all the protections we have in the US from terrorist attacks, how does the heroin make it's way into the US?

"It's very difficult to say which smugglers are in the government," Hassenzoi said. "I don't know names. But I believe there are people in the government, and that is why we can't stop the smuggling. These people in the government are driving cars without license plates and with dark windows. Nobody knows who they are. Nobody can stop them."

The fall out from all this is that heroin use is rising among teenagers across the US. In order to prevent the Taliban from getting more recruits, we should look the other way while teenagers like Amy Bousfeld die? That is a sick foreign policy and a hypocritical drug policy.
The Taliban never attacked us on 9/11. After we invaded that country in 2001, following the attacks, we allowed al Qeada to slip into Pakistan while we installed former oil executive Karzai as a puppet president so that UNOCAL could build a pipeline through that country from the oil fields of Russia to port in Pakistan. During the jihad following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1980, the CIA and Pakistan's ISI used opium cultivation to fund the muhajadeen, but the Taliban had eradicated nearly all opium cultivation from Afghanistan.
Now the US government, not being satisfied with sending young men and women to their deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq, have decided that the possibility of your child OD'ing isn't as important as achieving it's goals in the Middle East. Are we safer now that instead of our children becoming methheads, they're becoming junkies instead?

Welfare Warfare

The talking point coming out of the McCain campaign has been centered around the success of the "Surge". "Obama opposed the surge and look how successful it has been!" or words to that effect are being tossed around by the right in an attempt to derail the inevitable. But what they're not saying is that this surge of which they speak is actually a surge of cash to insurgents, paying them money (directly from tax payer's pockets) to not shoot each other, or US troops stationed in Iraq.
What it is, is subsidized unwarfare, coming from the same people who back in the eighties opposed paying people (usually intellectually unfit) to not work. Here's an idea, maybe if we withdrew our troops, we wouldn't have to pay them anything! Because the problem is the insurgents want more money not to kill each other. They must be getting paid in dollars. But hey, it's not the neocons money! Hell no! They got a big tax cut from Bush (that McCain wants to make permanent) on all the cash they're raking in from the rest of us who are the ones paying for the war that 72% of troops stationed there oppose. But as long as the illusion can be maintained by the war mongers (with a little assistance from the corporate media)the beer swilling television watching imbeciles will think we need to waste our money time and resources in a war that can't be won because our credit can't be extended.
