Change Can Wait, WE Need To Hold Our Majority So We Can Do Nothing Conclusive For The Next Two Years

As an excellent example of the screwed-up priorities of the Taxed-Enough-Already crowd, they protest when President Obama bails out GM, they protest when President Obama tries to provide health care to millions of fellow American citizens with out any, but when the Senate approves billions more in funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not a peep. Even while the Pentagon cut pay for soldiers in Iraq, making this nothing more than a bailout for the Military-Industrial Complex, nothing from the television watching soldier sniffers.
This is also a prime example of the lack of difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties. The Democrats, who gained a majority by exploiting the antiwar sentiment in 2006, and again in 2008, voted for funding a war that Gen. McChrystal has termed a draw. So dumping more money into this sinkhole would be a waste of tax-payer money, right?
Yes, but, being an election year, rather than stand on principal, the Democrats instead choose to let their decisions be guided by their desire to hold onto their cushy jobs where they can bet against the stock market as they pass legislation to deregulate it and probably invest heavily into defense contractors, all with the salary they made from, us, the tax payer.

It's clear The Adults Have Abandoned The Republicans

It's official. In the nearly four hundred years that this country has been settled by Puritans, nothing has really changed at all. back then, they saw witches everywhere, now, the poor put upon and persecuted Christians see Muslims everywhere.
Now we have these paranoiacs, who obviously only remember the part of the Bill of Rights that allows them to keep weapons to shoot each other with, have forgotten that whole freedom of religion thing. I don't give a fuck if President Obama is a Muslim (which, he's not)because our country is not based on any theological practice (although there are those who would like to see it that way). like the Nazis who saw signs of Judaism everywhere, the conservatives of the US are seeing signs of Islam, or wanting to see it, everywhere.
I swear, sometimes our whole political process has been taken over by a bunch of third graders. Republicans criticize Democrats, liberals hate conservatives and nobody notices that for the better part of the last century into this one, both parties have been running things. And with the exception of a few Jewish candidates here and there, for the most part, they have all been Christian. And what or where has that got us? Mired down in two never ending wars, rampant unemployment hidden by government figures, on the brink of a global depression, global warming, etc. All this polarized petty partisan bickering isn't solving anything. There's nothing civil about any of it. It's just name calling and blame throwing.
And I'm just sick of it all.

Take The Democrats. Please.

Yesterday's special election in Massachusetts wasn't a referendum on President Obama, as much as right wing pundits would like you to believe, as much as it was the beginning of the end for the Democratic Party.
Like Kvatch, I believe that Scott Brown's win yesterday was good for the Democrats. They don't have to work towards passing any health care reform now, even with a majority in the House and the Senate because they don't know how to lead. Reading too much into yesterday's defeat, some of them are talking about extending the Bush tax cuts, once again showing the lack of disparity between the two parties. And Joe Lieberman thinks they should move more to the right.
In 2008, the Democratic Party ran on, and won the election on some fairly forward thinking ideas. Now, it turns out, they don't actually want to enact any of these ideas, because they're afraid of the opposition party, of which only 22% of Americans identify themselves with. So why are they pandering to twenty two percent of the population?
Ultimately, the election was a referendum on the stupidity of the average voter. Don't like the way Democrats are doing things? Vote for the Republican! Republicans run the country into the ground? Hmmm, who should I vote for now. It's no wonder the Teabaggers have gotten some traction. Sure they may be insane, but at least they're not the same old crap.

This Should Be Over

They say that a country gets the leaders it deserves, and if John McCain wins the election in November, it will because of a bunch of moronic Hillary supporters who will be protesting outside the Democratic convention. Having participated in protests in the past, I will unequivocally state they are an exercise in futility, unless, of course, you have the world's news media at your disposal looking to embarrass that arugula chewing, martini sipping, non-bowling elitist by any method available. The corporate media may have shown a bias (DUH), but it seemed to be against the Democratic front runner, not just Hillary.
These people are so Clintonatonic that they'd rather not vote and have McCain win than put someone more in touch with their mental faculties in the White House. My advice to them? Build a Goddamned bridge and get the fuck over it! Primary season is long over, your candidate has thrown her support behind the presumptive nominee, pissing and moaning about it isn't going to change a thing.
This election is still the Democrats to lose. However, I won't support a party full of people who seem more intent on fulfilling their own electoral fantasies than doing what's right for the country. That's why I'm voting for Cynthia McKinney.

The Hypocrisy Of Some People

When Ralph Nader announced his candidacy, the cry across the "progressive" blogosphere was almost palpable. "Spoiler" was one term used, "determined to put the Republicans in the White House four more years" was another. But, more often than not, the term "egomaniac" was thrust upon him by people who take offense to negative labels. Sure, Ralphie's as unelectable as Dennis Kucinich, but who can argue against his agenda and still refer to themselves as "progressives"?
Adopt single payer national health insurance
Cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget
No to nuclear power, solar energy
Aggressive crackdown on corporate crime
and corporate welfare
Open up the Presidential debates
Adopt a carbon pollution tax
Reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East
Impeach Bush/Cheney
Repeal the Taft-Hartley anti-union law
Adopt a Wall Street securities speculation tax
Put an end to ballot access obstructionism
Work to end corporate personhood

All the above issues are "off the table" for the corpocratic candidates, Nader, on the other hand think these are more important than flag lapel pins, supporting a never ending expensive war, or any other "issue" either candidate has put forward.
But what I find most ironic is the label "egomaniac" being thrown at Nader by Clinton supporters. Clinton is trailing Obama in the most recent poll, the mathematical improbability of Mrs Clinton securing enough delegates to win the nomination, with Obama picking up more delegates in Texas, yet Sen. Clinton has vowed to stay in the race until the end. She has as much of a chance of winning as Nader, yet she is allowed to remain in the race unscathed by those brainwashed by the Clinton cult of personality?
These very same people have vowed to vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't get the nomination, a kind of 'I'm-taking-my-vote-and-going-home' from people who feel that despite having enjoyed the plush front runner status since 2006, the media hasn't treated Sen. Clinton fairly (like digging up video of her trip to Bosnia, which shows us she will be as able a liar as her predecessor if elected). I guess that makes them "determined to put the Republicans in the White House four more years", the very thing they have accused Mr. Nader of doing.
But don't get me wrong, I'm with Mr. Nader, who thinks Senator Clinton should stay in the race. Then, when your party's all broken and bleed ing by a real egomaniac, you'll have no other choice but to go with the only candidate who isn't all about themselves.

The Election Is The Democrats To Blow

One of the two Democratic front runners should step down (actually, there's only one front runner and a second place person trying to redefine the rules to their advantage) not for the sake of the party, but for the sake of the country. By extending the nomination process well into June now, what with the possibility of a Michigan do over, (and trust me Senator Clinton, you will not win that) you are allowing the Republican nominee to define the issues and continue feeding right wing misinformation to the public, with a little help from the corporate media.
Even though violence has increased in Iraq and the Iraqi leadership has fallen short of goals set, John McCain is basing his campaign on foreign issues such as Iraq. Support for the war is at it's highest level since 2006, likely because the Pentagon has canceled release of a report confirming the fact that the war was based on lies. This is all information that a Democratic front runner could use, if they didn't have to spend this time fighting for a nomination that will seem less likely to win once the disinformation takes hold in the mind of the average American television watcher. And the war in Afghanistan is going so well, that NATO is approaching Russia to come to our aid, which is odd, since we originally backed the mujahedeen there to keep the Russians out.
The Democrats need to point out the collapse of the dollar, the falling stock market and the prospect of a severe recession, all products of a driving US economy driven too long with Republicans at the wheel. But they can't do that by bickering over who gets to be the nominee, statements made by supporters and other non-issues that will rapidly begin to turn off voters on either side of the party. One of the two nominees needs to be a bigger person and step aside, but unfortunately, if one of them were to do that, the one that did would probably be better suited to be our next president.
Meanwhile, John McCain can make ludicrous claims about al Qaeda trying to tip the US election, and there's no one there to call bullshit on that because they're too busy arguing over things Geraldine Ferraro or the Reverend Jeremiah Wright have said (no matter how right the reverend is)which is irrelevant to the fact that the US is no longer the greatest economy in the world

You Have Been Played

The US is concerned because China has increased it's defense budget by 17 percent because it's unclear as to what China's intentions are. Even with the Chinese increase, it is still but a fraction of what we spend on our defense budget ourselves. We spend nearly as much as the rest of the world combined does on our military, and yet, we are still worried about national security in this election.
The economy is slipping into a recession, the dollar is falling as the price of oil rises, and all any of our presidential candidates can use to mobilize voters is fear. Not fear that the economy is in rubble, but fear of attacks from people with no standing armies on the other side of the world. People, you have been played.
Since we are outspending the rest of the world on security, we should be fairly secure, whether it's a high noon or three o'clock in the morning. If we are not, than we are spending way too much money on a system with no guarantees. The US is involved in two wars, fighting the alleged enemy, which has not made of safer than we were before the wars, and has, in fact attracted more people to the cause of the "Islamofascist". These wars, which were supposed to be relatively cheap(around $60 billion, according to administration officials) has actually cost us trillions of dollars. They are a drain on our economy and yet not one single presidential front runner has suggested we end these boondoggled quagmires.
There is one candidate who thinks we should cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget, or that we should reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East. Unfortunately, the nation of television-watchers, with their minds turned to mush from being fed a diet of constant fear are being herded like lambs to slaughter by the corpocracy's lesser of two evil strategies that will have people actually not voting for a decent candidate with good ideas, but against a candidate with whom they do not like.
Suckers.

The Latest Distraction

Today, I happened to catch a glimpse of the congressional hearings on steroid use by professional athletes, and I wondered, who really gives a fuck if some juiced up ball player is taking performance enhancing drugs? All it really does is add some excitement to an incredibly dull game. In a capitalistic society, independent contractors should be allowed to do what ever is necessary to give them an edge in the race for glory, history books and astronomical salaries. Next you'll be telling me it's a bad thing that Amy Winehouse is a crackhead.
Sure, some of you may say that, hey, these professional athletes are setting a bad example for the youth of our nation. We have an executive seeking immunity for telecoms that spied on Americans, illegally, a political party that thinks torture is okay, and a White House that has abused it's power more than a teenage boy with a stack of Hustler magazines abuses himself, these are far worse examples being set by our leaders that will have far reaching ramifications in the years to come. Why not investigate these? Why waste taxpayer's money on something that will have no immediate bearing on the lives of many Americans?

Democrats Disappoint Again

So Nancy Pelosi (remember her? the Democrat in charge of the House who gained power riding in on a wave of "change"?), when greeted with impeach Cheney and Bush activists sticks to her position that impeaching the two criminals would be "divisive". God forbid the Democrats actually behave as if they are truly an opposition party. I guess asking for an investigation into the many crimes perpetrated by these criminals is asking too much.
Meanwhile, the criminals in charge try to bury a pardon for the crimes they may have committed into a bill.

I think we need to "change" the Democratic party for a real opposition party, not just the other half of the War Party. You may vote for them this November, but I'm going to follow the sage advice of one Mr. Peter Townshend

What Flavor Is Your Kool-Aid?

Neil shakespeare had a post about Kool-Aid where I learned, among other things, that it was actually Flvaor-Aid that was quaffed in mass quantities in Jonestown. Also, that while his mother didn't add the correct amount of sugar, making it blander than usual, my step-mother used Sweet'N'Low, which had no conversion chart for mixing with Kool-Aid, which made the most horrible colorful drink you'd never want to taste.
But why do we only associate Kool-Aid with Republicans? How many people drank the Democratic Kool-Aid last night, when it looked like Harry Reid was going to force the Republicans to filibuster the Levin-Reed Iraq Deployment bill, only to have him pull the bill from consideration on the senate floor, leaving a lot of people with blue dye #6 and yellow dye #10 moustaches around their mouths as the hopes of ending the war came crashing down like a six-year old after the sugar buzz wears off.
Our two party system is a lot like Kool-Aid, or is it Funny Face, Choo-Choo Cherry on the right and Blastin' Blue Raspberry on the left, looks good, tastes good, but really is just laden with sugar and a lot of bad chemicals with no nutritional value whatsoever. Where were the three Democratic front-runners last night, when they had an oppurtunity to show off their leadership skills that qualify them to be the leader of the free world? Sadly, they are non-existant, appealing only to those whose brains have been damaged from drinking too much Kool-Aid, while offering nothing beyond their collective cults of personality.

Cindy Doesn't Need The Democratic Party, And Neither Does Anyone Else

Cindy Sheehan is quits with the Democratic Party, and I don't blame her. After she mobilized the antiwar sentiment in this country, the Democrats exploited her, then chewed her up and spit her out like Grandma's anise candy once they gained control of Congress. Proving they are as useful as an asshole on your elbow, the Democrats have disappointed all but the blindly loyal members, who are as stupid as the 28% of Republicans who still support the commander guy. Kool-aid drinkers are essentially the same no matter what flavor they prefer.
At least the Republicans gleefully admit their evilness and wear it proudly like a swatztika on the lapel. The Democrats pretend to be concerned and in touch with the American people, but then Rahm Emmanuel and the DLC work behind the scenes to ensure that in the end, there is no real difference between the two parties. Having two parties that accomplish the same thing makes about as much sense as wearing two pairs of socks in the summer so one pair can absorb all the extra sweat.
Yes, the Democrats have put our expectations on the permanent down escalator to Hell. As Ms. Sheehan put it:
I am deemed a radical because I believe that partisan politics should be left to the wayside when hundreds of thousands of people are dying for a war based on lies that is supported by Democrats and Republican alike. It amazes me that people who are sharp on the issues and can zero in like a laser beam on lies, misrepresentations, and political expediency when it comes to one party refuse to recognize it in their own party. Blind party loyalty is dangerous whatever side it occurs on. People of the world look on us Americans as jokes because we allow our political leaders so much murderous latitude and if we don’t find alternatives to this corrupt "two" party system our Representative Republic will die and be replaced with what we are rapidly descending into with nary a check or balance: a fascist corporate wasteland. I am demonized because I don’t see party affiliation or nationality when I look at a person, I see that person’s heart. If someone looks, dresses, acts, talks and votes like a Republican, then why do they deserve support just because he/she calls him/herself a Democrat?

Why, indeed.
