Rebumblicans Bumble Again

Do you know what is the proper thing to do as the National Anthem is played?
Does one stand straight up, or do they put their hands over their hearts?

If you answered put your hand over your heart, you're a fucking idiot, and probably some mouth breathing television watching Rebumblican as well. You put your hand over your heart when you're saying the pledge of allegiance.
Once again, the jingoistic and chauvinistic Rebumblicans, who have pretty much lost the election due to their choice of a philandering, lobbyist linked flip flopper have decided that the election hinges not on who has ideas to change the direction the country is going in but who is more patriotic. What's more important? Wearing a silly flag pin on your lapel, or getting our troops out of the quagmire that is Iraq?
The problem is that there are more people worried about whether Obama adopts what is their own ignorant idea of which is the proper stance during the Star Spangled Banner than who is going to do something about the economy, health care, or continuing the unsuccessful Bush foreign policy of not speaking to our enemies. If the American Idiot is stupid enough to fall for this neolithic neocon ruse, then it's time we split the country up and give all those morons Texas.

Right on! I keep wanting to comment and for awhile it wouldn't let me, but maybe today. All of your posts are superb.

I think the GOP is imploding.

Exactly right! Like all of their desperate moves, this one will backfire too. It's fun to watch, in a
train wreck sort of way.

Why have they all turnt their backs to the flag?

The whole political landscape, from left to right, is imploding.

They can't attack the man on anything significant, so they have to look for stupid, non-significant stuff. Obama should be asking them why they allowed themselves to be led into a war based on lies.

I usually stand, shuffle my feet, hope that they play it quickly and that it is over with soon, look around to see what people are doing, and whisper to whoever I am with about something or other (if we're at a ballgame, I whisper stuff like, "They always sing this too slowly.") My hands are...I have no idea where my hands are. Sometimes I scratch my ass and sometimes I just put them in my pockets. It isn't that I don't have any regard for my country, I just don't know what "country" means in any real sense, or why whatever feeling I have about it requires a public display of fealty. I stopped saying the Pledge of Allegiance when I was ten years old and would just stand with the other kids and not say anything. I had said it before, you see, and I reasoned that, having promised that I would be a loyal American, I didn't have to promise it again, every single day, because I keep my promises. Once I make a promise, that's enough. The anthem business is nonsense. Public displays of loyalty are useful to a country that is trying to enforce a fascistic way of life, but the United States is not supposed to be a fascist country. Anyone with a sense of history and who is familiar with the Founding Fathers knows that they would be appalled by the flag crap and the pledges and the loyalty displays. I forget which Federalist Paper it was, but one of the Founding Fathers wrote about this as a big country where, if you didn't like the US, you could get away from it and make your own way in the world. Vice President Aaron Burr tried to go off and form his own country while he was still Vice President. The anthem and flag facing stuff is utter bullshit, meant to reinforce the Us v Them mentality. Still if you want to stand at attention with your hand over your heart and pretend that this makes you better at something or other, or more suited to be the president while you enrich your buddies and help them steal from the taxpayers, go right ahead. Not nearly enough of us see through the game, but some of us do.
