In a not-to-good sign for John McCain, he has suspended his campaign to focus on an economic bailout for Wall Street criminals who are trying to using the treasury to extort $700 trillion dollars from the American taxpayer. This proves that McCain is unfit to be president as he is unable to focus on more than one thing at a time, because I'm sure that as president, crisis will crop up in order and not happen simultaneously.
But is he really suspending his campaign because he needs to find a new campaign manager whose firm wasn't being paid $15,000 a month to lobby for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Or is it because Grandpa "I-Really-Need-To-Be-Educated-About-The-Economy" McCain is falling behind in the polls? Senator "Keating Five" McCain also wants to postpone Friday's debate with Sen. Barack Obama (which was to focus on foreign policy) so he can get as much grandstanding mileage out of the current woes as he can. If he was really serious, he would have done something about this last week, or better yet, three years ago, when people began defaulting on their mortgages.
Grandpa McCain yells at you to get off his lawn
Is this a precursor to suspension of elections altogether? Why else would US troops be deployed in the US as crowd control "for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities.”. I've bee trying to avoid this tin-foil hat stuff, but seeing a small unit on my way home from work today, it started me thinking:
(WARNING:Paranoid Conspiracy Theory)
Is this just the emergency George W Bush needs to invoke NSPD-51, effectively making him a dictator? Forget a terrorist attack, when people wake up and realize that they're being ripped off by the corpocracy, d'ya think they're just going to sit there and give up their money?

We are witnessing the shock doctrine in action. Time to stock up on ammo.
I'd be more concerned if I had any money left to worry about, but thanks to years of free market ideologues I lost what little I had saved a long time ago.
McCain is falling in the polls, so he figured he had nothing to lose with this ridiculous ploy of postponing the debate "for the good of the country."
And he's afraid Palin will self-destruct in the vice presidential debate. If he could get his debate with Obama postponed to the date that the Palin-Biden debate was scheduled, maybe Sarah could weasel out of any more TV appearances until she's safely ensconced in the White House.
700 Billion
The sad reality is that it would be difficult to put anything past the Bush regime at this point.
This NSPD-51 scenario is something I have talked about before on my semi-tinfoil-hat blog because I believe it is a very real possibility. Like Libholm says, we can't really put anything past these people.
Lew, I'm not sure you are so far off base thinking Bush-Cheney might try to stay in power forever. If it looks like their protege isn't going to get elected and the Wall Street crisis isn't going to scare people into voting GOP, watch them cook up something.
I don't think Bush-Cheney cooked up the Wall Street problems, but it wouldn't surprise me if they maybe knew it was likely and didn't do anything to stop it. We have seen what kind of power grabs they try when they get some scary disaster dumped in their laps. Does this crisis in any way resemble something that happened seven years ago in regard to the way the administration has reacted? Maybe...
If they aren't working on a way to suspend the election (and I would bet such a plan is at least on the table), I think they will be looking for a way to suspend Inauguration Day, depending on who gets elected.
If there is a dictatorship, then they don't have to bother with trying to repeal the 23rd Amendment. Heh...
