We were lied to our entire lives. Democracy isn't about voting for what you believe, or what serves our best interest. Nosireebob!'
No, according to Chick Schumer, senator from New York, democracy is about voting the way other people want you to vote, even if you have to strangle them economically. You know, like the Gaza blockade.
No longer are people allowed to base their voting habits on the truth as they perceive it, they are being manipulated into voting in someone else's interest. This works well on Republicans, who have Fox News/Rush Limbaugh/the NRA/the AFA to scare people into believing those opposed to their agenda are terrorists.
But Schumer is worse than that. He believes that Palestinians deserve it because "they don't believe in the Torah". Hey, I don't believe in the Torah, does that make it okay for someone to economically strangle me until I do? All this proves is that Israel is not a democracy, but an apartheid theocracy, albeit a racist one, where those people not of the state religion are not entitled to the same rights as those of the correct religion.
So if Chuck Schumer believes in manipulating democracy, maybe he doesn't belong in our congress. Using fear to get people to vote against their own interest doesn't make for a better democracy. It makes for a frightened paranoid populace, armed with guns and just enough misinformation to make them dangerous.

As much as I try to keep believing there's a tiny difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties, some asswipe like Schumer comes along and shatters the illusion.
Everyday, the lines between the two get a little more blurry.....
I knew that Schumer was racist, but I didn't know he was this racist.
What Tom Harper said is why - after looking at the trends worldwide to return to the Authoritarian roots of the British Parliamentary System ( Don't kid yourself. U.S. law is/was so close that precedents in one court system weighed heavily in related cases in the other system ) - I simply nodded my head when I stumbled across Wikipedia definitions of political systems. You should too if you recall Theodore Roosevelt's Bull Moose party.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutocracy is one of many notes missed in our 'Education' that I've filed. This one was in http://opitslinkfest.blogspot.com/2009/07/perception-alteration.html
The thread. Well, come to think, that file does refer to AlterNet's piece by George Orwell about the use of hatemongering media to divide political opposition. I really came here from a piece by Ian Welsh on the institutional b.s. about Israel/Palestine to Scholars & Rogues about perception and GodlessLibHomo...who has too much good stuff up right now...
But, you see, I have a problem differentiating between kinds of discrimination. It looks like different flavours of the same koolaid.
Saying Chas. Schumer is a racist bigot opens one up to another thought seldom admitted to : Do you really think that the GOP and Faux News are the only institutional liars operating from a script ?
It's like the fish swimming in the sea : he doesn't pay much attention to the medium in which he swims except as it relays sensory data.
Schumer is dangerous.
