Is it Zarqawi, Or Is It Memorex

A video has appeared on the internet purportedly showing dead al-Qaeda "leader" Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. This comes days after an audiotape of Osama Bin Laden was played on
al-Jazeera. On the right is a picture from the video, while on the left is a known photograph of Zaraqawi. A close examination will bring you to the conclusion that the man in the new video is most definitely not Zarqawi, as his nose is longer than the one on the left. In other words it's a fake. What makes me say that? Because he's dead, he must be if our forces in Iraq, who were able to pick the right Saddam out of his many alleged body doubles have been unable to capture some guy hobbling around with a wooden leg.
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was to have reported to have been killed as the US bombed strongholds of Ansar al-Islam in the north of Iraq. Having a wooden leg made it impossible to escape. So why keep him alive, or for that matter why keep Osama alive?
Either two things are happening here. One is this is all just election year posturing by the Bush administration to get the people's focus back on the "War on Terror" instead of the quagmire in Iraq, or any of the other reasons that Bush's poll numbers are still falling. Fairly soon, they'll bring out the color coded terror threat chart again, as it seemed to work so well last time in keeping the sheeple scared. Of course, this could backfire as it shows that no matter how many bombs are dropped, or soldiers are losts, or countries we invade, we'll never catch the main bad guys. Either that, or they're softening people up with some pre-invasion propaganda. Next they'll be showing us pictures of Zarqawi and Bin Laden having cocktails at Ahmednejhad's place. For try as might, while a lot of news stories had the purported video, not one of them provided a link to the original website they got it from.

I don't see that. Maybe it is my extensive training in military facial identification( an actual course), a process by which we identify people that you think are dead. I've looked at the pictures you have provided, and if you were allowed to post pictures in the comments section I would post better ones. You are asking your audience to compare a strait on black and white photo with that of a color one taken from an angle. Of course the nose will appear a different length, the same as it would if you posted two similar pictures of yourself.
Also, I followed the link provided to the conspiracy theory website that you piped to, and found there argument to be very inconclusive.
This makes me furture wonder, if the agencies of the USA were flooding the Arab television market with fake video and audio of Muslim terror leaders, why would we not try to make the message one that made the invasion seem like a better idea? If you listen to what the dead man said, and if you have the slightest notion of how to win friends and influence enemies, you would know that the videos were not written by anyone on the side of the USA.
How could someone hide from the mighty USA? Well, you know how large Iraq is, and you know how many soliders and Marines we have there...it would be easy, wooden leg or not.

It looks like the same individual to me, although the scar on the cheek would indicate that the black and white photo is actually reversed... I don't imagine that would help identification efforts, but then again, why would it matter whether or not he was actually captured? He is far more valuable as a bogeyman, dead or alive.

I have no idea is he is still alive, and frankly I do not think it makes one helluva difference. The Shrub's regime likes to keep us terror-stricken but then also offers up a dead muslim every once in awhile to show they are on top of things. Its just something to distract the general population away from all the crap coming in and going out of the WH.

When I examined the picture of Zarqawi from the new video to the photos on the wanted poster in the link provided, I saw no resemblance at all.

Well I am not sure, Lew. I have almost no expertise in recognizing anything. I'd be lucky to remember my neighbors!

I also know that pictures on computers can get skewed and are not really an accurate way to discern things. For example, some browsers change even the size of images. I'm not sure anymore who is dead and who is alive. But I am concerned about the many thousands on each side we know to be dead and their grieving families.

Greetings, Spooky. Long time no see!

I've been around! I still can't get into the Blue Republic, and now I find that I am unable to access Wikipedia as well. Probably need to adjust my browser, whioch means a two hour phone call to AT&T.

As to the pics. I think the man in the video is him.

I'm no expert either, but I think the pictures are of the same man as he might look after a couple of years. That doesn't mean he's still alive though. That black and white picture of him has been floating around for many years now, and the pictures on the tape could have been taken a couple years later.

I agree with dusty, whether dead or alive this mess is about so much more than him.

Well, I guess if it really is him, why the fuck are we wasting time threatening Iran (who had nothing to do with 9/11. But then again neither did Zarqawi)and going after the alleged perpetrators, who are still roaming around free after almost five years? I guess Bush's mom never made him clean his plate before he got dessert.

As has already been said, he's just a patsy, a boogieman... Just like Bin Laden, who has been reported dead... years ago.

People need to tune out of Fox News ASAP. ^-^
