Steal Big!!

In a previous post I talked about the oil bubble from last summer, created by speculators that drove the per-barrel price of oil up over 100%. Now comes the rather unsurprising news that Exxon-Mobil shattered it's previous record for annual profits posted by a US company.
Here's my conspiracy theory: speculators, working for Exxon-Mobil, deliberately drove the price of oil up, so that Exxon-Mobil could sell the oil they had purchased earlier at a lower price at the new inflated price.
Sure, it may be a stretch, but it fits right in to the continuing corporate criminal culture. A criminal president and vice president not being prosecuted for their crimes,Bernie Madoff under "arrest" in his $7 million apartment, it just proves that the larger the crime, the less likely you'll serve any time.

" A criminal president and vice president not being prosecuted for their crimes"

The last time we had a criminal president and vice president in office was the very beginning of 2001. The president was impeached, and found to have committed a felony in the cover up of the sexual harassment incident he eventually admitted participating in. The vice president just kept going around and saying he was above the law ("no controlling legal authority").

Anonymous,
I guess the difference being is that while Clinton did commit perjury, he was investigated tried and impeached for it. There hasn't been any effort to hold those responsible from the Bush administration accountable ("responsibility" and "accountability" being favorite Republican buzz words-when it applies to the opposition)for the many constitution and various treaty violations perpetrated by said administration.
Imagine if your mother, your sister, or your wife were raped by a criminal, but the police refused to investigate, prosecute, or punish the criminal because what had occurred happened "in the past", and you get the sense of frustration any true patriot would have by the Obama administration's refusal to pursue any legal actions against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or Gonzales.

Re. Clinton, it seems like the GOP went out if its way to nail him. It wouldn't even surprise me if he was set up by people who knew how bad his weaknesses were and who were just looking for ways to exploit them. Whether Clinton was a criminal to begin with or not is highly debatable, although all the Whitewater, Travelgate, Foster, etc. stuff the right tried never really proved anything.

In the case of Bush and Cheney, they would be more of the corporate criminal type. It's just that their lies to the American people have resulted in unnecessary war, with thousands of people dying.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if what you suggest about oil prices is true.

A stretch? Not at all. I think that's exactly what is going on.
