Will Cheney Ever Give It Up?

Time to put your thinking caps on, folks.
In the latest installment of a series on Dick Cheney in the Washington Post, James Baker III said:
He has been pretty damn good at accumulating power..

All the powers that Cheney has accumulated has been because of the "war on terror", and the chief executive's role as commander-in-chief....
The war in Iraq is more than likely to last well into 2009, thanks in part to the spineless cowardly Democrats....
The likelihood of a Democrat winning the presidency in 2008 are pretty good....
Would Cheney be willing to just hand over all these powers he has created to the "opposition" party?
Then there is NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/NSPD 51 and
HOMELAND SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/HSPD-20
which sets up a dictatorship in the case of a catastrophic emergency. The chances of this happening are much better than John McCain getting elected president.

Was Baker being a smart ass or was he dead serious?

It's the understatement of the decade.

One of THE BEST things I ever saw about the great evils of The Big Dick was on Canada's CBC-TV that aired in October of 2004. But you can watch it online here: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/

Be prepared.... you'll feel like puking and kicking in your monitor screen all in one.

Throw a net over the bastard before he does any more harm.

Tina, I'm afraid I'm already at that point if I go to the site you linked it could be dangerous for all the furniture in the room.

After all the events he's set in motion, I have a hard time believing he'll hand over the reins of power quietly.

He has definitely been the terror of our lives ever since he got into office. I have a feeling that he will still be causing trouble even after he leaves office.

Once Bush and Cheney have taken the rights and opportunities from the American people, those rights and benefits will never be returned.

No matter who is in charge.

Cheney hand over any of his power? Heh... I think we will have to pry it away from him with figurative crowbars. With more than 570 days left of Bu$hCo there is plenty of time for Cheney to amass even more power than he already has, maybe enough to REALLY mess things up. He is the kind of guy who would declare martial law in order to keep his power... Can't you just see him making up some kind of terrorist threat in order to declare martial law? I sure can, and I don't think I'm being overly-concerned or paranoid. Cheney has made himself into one of the most powerful people in American history. PoP is absolutely right, we need to throw a net over him before he can do any more damage.

What's so infuriating is that long after he's out of office - and long after he's dead - we'll still be paying for "our 50 year presence in Iraq."
