Victims Of The Policies Of Idiots

Freed British sailors today revealed abuses by the Iranian government, including waterboarding, being set upon by dogs, being forced to strip naked and lay on top of each other, and, oh, wait a minute, these are abuse charges against the United States ! It seems the worse the British soldiers had to endure was *gulp*, blindfolding, isolation and a seven year jail sentence if they failed to confess to something they had actually done. Makes the Iranians seem quite civilzed compared to the policies of the Bush administration.
And that's the point. The people of the "coalition of the willing"(to break international law, as well as numerous treaties) can't complain about the way our soldiers are being treated when captured because we have treated our prisoners so shoddily. Saying it's okay for us to do so makes one look like a hypocrite, which is what most war supporters have become.
Bush has called the recent bill passed by Congress which sets a date for troop withdrawal a signal to the terrorists, but we are not fighting terrorists in Iraq, if we were really serious about fighting terrorists, we'd be bombing the mountains of Pakistan where alQaeda is hiding out, regrouping, and rallying more people to it's cause. Luckily for them, they're located in a place that doesn't have a large oil reserve underneath. Because that's what the "war on terror" is all about. Recent rumors of a US led attack on Iran caused oil prices to rise above $70 a barrel (just in time for the millions of Americans heading to Florida for spring break, thank you), proving that we don't actually have to invade a country for the oil monopolies to profit from it.

I've been genuinely amazed at the number of conservative talking heads who've focussed on just the one aspect--showing the saiors on television--as a reason to condemn/sanction/attack Iran. Have these morons lost all sense of perspective?

The mind boggles.

Sounds like the Christian right. Do on to others...

Just think if manufacturers of other commodities could jack up their prices because they felt nervous, they could really screw us over. I do think the jump in prices is to give the execs another big fat dump of cash at our expense.

All of the "talking heads" have been screaming about the Geneva Convention violations here. . .aint selective memory grand?

Too bad that OUR "government" really DID commit attrocities against prisoners. . .

I did a piece on this. I wasn't as nice or as reserved as you. I was so damn angry! Our own government called the actions of the Iranians "unacceptable". I just lost it.

Unacceptable is the way we have treated people we just plucked off the streets, held for years, without a charge, without council, without hope, without any regard to the GC or the Nuremburg Trials.

Those damned Iranians have lost their touch and that demonstrates once again, that the US government is morally and intellectually superior.
The Geneva conventions are only outdated and quaint when we say so.
