The Emperor's Same Old Clothes

The president is coming to town tomorrow, already the blockades have been put up and the local media is in pre-orgasmic state unseen since Jerry Ford's funeral. A protest is also planned (of which I will not be attending due to work obligations) featuring Ray McGovern a retired CIA analyst who took on Donald Rumsfeld when the latter was Secretary of Defense.
Bush needs to preach to the kool-aid drinking choir, and they don't get much more kool-aid drinking than East Grand Rapids, where Bush is scheduled to speak. He needs to convince the few remaining supporters that the war in Iraq isn't lost, and even more important, it is still part of the war on terror. Because Zarqawi was there (allegedly), it makes perfect sense to destroy a whole sovereign nation to kill one man (unless that sovereign country is Pakistan, and the one man is Osama Bin Laden)

Bush can parade around East (as it's residents prefer to call it, disassociating and distancing themselves from the minorities and Polacks in regular ol' Grand Rapids) without fear of someone pointing out, hey! look! the president's not wearing any clothes! even though he has been parading around with naked glee at playing the Commander-in-Chief (until he realized, too, that the war was lost and began to seek out a "war czar" to be the scapegoat for the failures of his latest surge)for the last six years or so.
So by the time I leave work, the president wil be flown out of town, the peace demonstrators will all be beaten by police (who says we're not becoming a fascist state?)and hopefully the highways won't be blocked so the presidential motorcade doesn't have to share the roads with us common people that just got done paying the taxes that afford him the ability to fly around and make speeches for wars that can never be won.
UPDATE-My job is out by the airport, so I always worry when Bush or Cheney come to town that I'll be stuck in traffic while these wipes roll by in their motorcade. AS I was leaving the radio station I was tuned top said the highway from the airport to the Gerald Ford Museum would be shut down for the motorcade, so I quickly got on because I didn't want to be stuck with no gas waiting. Then I realized that the highway would be shut down the other way, so I continued on homeward. That's when I realized that Bush would becoming toward me on the other side. That when I looked ahead and noticed a line of cars with flashing lights coming from the other direction. Down went my window, out went my arm, and up went the finger, saluting him and his entourage as they sped pass. I don't know if he saw it or not, but all the way home I felt good (Even though I think flipping the bird is quite grotesque).

That was perfection! Now...down to the meat and potatoes...tell me the man is not touching himself! I may be blind depending on the answer...

Have you thought about calling in sick to work?

Excellent post. Sorry you have to have el stinko in town. Ewww, I hate it when he or Cheney show up. The whole area is tense just having them around. Hope the protest makes national news.

I'm only a couple of hours away from G.R. I was wondering what that stench was....I'm glad Dubya isn't coming here.

I'm willing to bet that when you flipped him off it felt great, no? I didn't flip him off when he came to my town during the 2004 campaign, but I did stand by his motorcade, holding a giant sign that had his goofy face on it with the words "Anti-American War Criminal Fascist" printed across it and my then 2 yr old BabyGirl (who was strapped to my back... which may have been why I wasn't beaten by the cops b/c honestly, how bad would it look to beat mommies with babies strapped on their backs?) had on a baby sun hat with a peace sign on it. It wasn't much... but it sure did feel good to do it.

You should have given him the loser sign too. Actually I don't think there was probably time to give him all the gestures he deserves.

That was perfect! I wonder if the NSA got a picture of that? A blogger in your neck of the woods got some pictures of the protest and I included one on my blog that might interest you. Check it out.

The GOP convention is coming to near where I live. The anarchists are already mobilizing.

Fantastic job Lew! You have done something I have wanted to do for the past six or more years! I hope they didn't note your license plates.

In the small southern Oregon town of Jacksonville, Bush decided to make an unannounced stop a few years ago. My aunt lives there, and serves on the city council, and from what she said, it created a huge security problem which the local and neighboring police forces pretty much had to handle, and local taxpayers ended up footing much of the bill. From www.democracynow.org 10/19/04:

"Police Shot Protesters With Pepperballs At Bush Rally"

Meanwhile last week in Jacksonville Oregon, riot police shot projectiles known as pepperballs at a crowd of protesters who had gathered to protest a campaign appearance by President Bush. The pepperballs have been described like paintballs filled with cayenne pepper. At least one protester, 65-year-old, Richard Swaney, was knocked down after being shot by police. One mother told the Associated Press that she had been pushed by police as she held her six-year-old daughter. The woman, Cerridewen Bunten, said, "Nobody was being violent. We were out of the streets so cars could go by. We were being loud, but I never knew that was against the law."

For a better description about how local police dealt with making it so Dumbya could eat his dinner without having to be within a block of the protestors, please read the following:

I am disgusted by this president and his administration. For me, the HOUSE OF CARDS can't come crashing down quickly enough. Somebody, turn on a high-speed electric fan or something.

My bad... they knew Bush was coming, because there were locals who knew in advance and who got the o.k. from police to have a protest... but still. Check out the Progressive article.
