Wacky! that's the only word I can think of to describe Sharron Angle's way of thinking, with out resorting to such qualifying adjectives as bull-goose, batshit, or other animal-based euphemisms for those people so out of touch with reality that our language has been unable to invent a word that says it succintly.
I mean, really, how better can you describe someone who thinks that a fetus is a person under the Constitution, yet thinks that gays aren't protected by the that same document?
Thankfully, Ms. Angle is unaware that scientists have discovered a "gay gene", because those poor unborn homosexual babies sitting in their mother's womb wouldn't be afforded the same rights as straight babies and may end up being part of some faith-based eugenics program where women found to carry this gene aren't allowed to procreate, while victims of rape and incest are forced to carry their offspring to full term. The mind boggles.

Republicans want To Kill Net Neutrality. I Wonder Why. (No, I Don't)
There is no blog topic more unglamorous than Net neutrality. But, it is an important one. Net Neutrality is the notion that a neutral broadband network is one that is free of restrictions on content, sites, or platforms, on the kinds of equipment that may be attached, and on the modes of communication allowed, as well as one where communication is not unreasonably degraded by other communication streams. What it means, essentially, is that all users have equal access to the internet.
But there are some people who feel Net Neutrality is a bad thing. They don't like the Obama administration's recent ruling defending Net Neutrality because they feel it will lead to more "regulation". To these corporatists, regulation is a bad thing. Just ask the folks in California, who had to deal with rolling blackouts during their energy deregulation, or look at how the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act led to the deregulation of our banking system, and the ensuing problems that has created. The corporatists are defending the major corporations, who claim that telecoms have no intention of blocking content or degrading network performance, but if that is the case, why has GOP Senators , who want to add an amendment to a bill denying funding to the FCC for any initiative to uphold Net Neutrality.
What a surprise. The GOP, in recent weeks following the Teabagger protests, have tried to portray themselves as the party of the angry taxpayer, but instead, have shown that they are just as much in the pocket of the large corporations who want to restrict what information you can read on the internet as the Democrats who want to use your hard earned money for handouts to bankers who robbed us while no one was looking (regulating). Macaca See........
I remember a time, not too long ago, when the Republicans were evil. I mean real verifiable evil, sulfur and brimstone evil, nasty as they wanted to be. But now what has happened?
Republicans used to set the pace, they turned liberal into a bad word and successfully painted everyone who opposed them and their nefarious ways as a traitor. They made tax cuts for the rich as American as running a war on a deficit and were proud of it. Now what are they up to?
Stalking Democrats with video cameras, hoping to force a macaca moment. This is sad and pathetic, and maybe a bit creepy. The plan is to ask questions of Democratic congresspeople they see as vulnerable in 2010 in hopes of forcing out an embarrassing response, which they'll then post to YouTube. Did I say a bit creepy? I meant to say full on bull goose looney creepy. But not evil. And that's what makes it sad and pathetic.
The GOP used to be about ideas. Not good ideas, but ideas nonetheless. But the voters resoundingly rejected those ideas in the last two election cycles, because, face it, they didn't work. Now all they have left in their bag of tricks is some second rate and second hand chicanery. They get it now-newspapers and talk radio are out, the new gizmo to spread their message is this internet doohickey. So they're trying to recreate what occurred naturally.
In 2006, Sen. George Allen, running against Jim Webb in Virginia, made an offhand remark about a Webb staffer following Allen's campaign as a macaca. Which turned out to be a racist slur, since S.R. Sidarth,the man Allen was addressing, was a 20-year-old of Indian descent. OOps!
Now the Republican Dirty Trick squad has decided this is the way to regain their footing. Not by actually having anything remotely resembling ideas themselves, because they all became intellectually bankrupt backing Bush/Cheney for all those years. Now all they can do is trot out Michael Steele and Bobby Jindal in hopes of scoring points in the whole "We don't see color either" department, and rally around Sarah Palin, because she kinda sorta represents the morality they claim to have when their teenage daughters aren't getting knocked up and having babies out of wedlock, destined to suckle at the public teat until some corporation, looking for an inroad into closely knit political circles, hires her as a "consultant" where she'll make $100K to introduce certain people to other certain people while Dad is out racing snowmobiles and Mom is winking at gray-haired old men at the regional party caucus.

Economic Extortion:Bush Blackmails Barack
After losing much in this past election, the GOP has decided it needs a new identity. What it needs is a whole new platform.
Yesterday, when Barack Obama met with George Bush, he raised the posibility of a bailout for the auto industry. Bush said he might if the Democraps back a Columbian free trade agreement that Bush has been trying to pass and Democraps opposed. So what it comes down to is Bush is saying that either we give up these jobs here, or sign on to give up more jobs in the future. Either way, more Americans will be out on the street.
I hardly blame the worker or the CEOs for the auto makers problems. They were only making cars Americans wanted to buy, and four years ago, those were big gas guzzling SUVs. It wasn't until recently, when oil prices went up, did some Americans choose to give up their gas hogs, and by then it was too late.
But the problem isn't only that consumers aren't buying these cars, it's that the market has changed. America has switched from a manufacturing economy, which paid well, to a service economy, which doesn't. People in the service economy can't make house and car payments, as well as credit card payments, insurance payments, or any of he plethora of other payments, and still keep the gas tank filled (or shop at Circuit City) any more. The real criminal is out sourcing (which the auto industry has done to a certain extent) which has not only created a trade deficit, but a wealth deficit as well. And now President Bush wants to continue that policy, which has proven to be so detrimental to the US economy, and he wants to do it over the backs of the US auto worker.
So if the GOP really wants a new identity, perhaps it should give up the greed glorifying free market friendly one per center pandering image it has and instead do something that benefits the rest of the country. But don't count on it.

A Small Step Backwards
The Republican party, after receiving a major set back in this past Tuesday's elections, have decided the way to go forward is to take a step backwards.
Citing the success of the passage of measures opposing gay marriage in three states, they have decided that the "sanctity" of marriage is the way forward.
Three referendums passing does not equal the vitality of the conservative movement. For instance, here in Michigan not only did a measure supporting stem-cell research pass, but a referendum on medicinal marijuana did as well.
What is going on now is the conservative right movement, after spending so much time effort and money these past few months trying to convince voters that Barack Obama was a secret Muslim Socialist Terrorist, is now saying that because people elected him even though his far left agenda was exposed does not mean that the country has shifted to the left politically, and is still in fact, center right.
Now it would appear that the GOP is giving up on national security, economic progress (unless you think that clinging to the failed notion of free markets is going to suddenly prove successful), in order to appeal a fringe part of the base that still clings to a notion that somehow prohibiting gays from becoming married is "freedom". How quaint.

Yes, They Have No Shame
AS the presidential campaign winds down towards it's last week and a half, and with their candidate trailing in most polls by double digits, the GOP is getting desperate in it's attempts to switch the narrative of the campaign from how badly their party has screwed up the country to personal smears of the opposition candidate.
First up is this picture, which some purport to portray Barack Obama's moms. Leave it to the party of family values to smear a candidates dead mother. (As the vintage porn collector commented here it's a highly dubious claim) What purpose this serves is beyond me, other than to scare people into thinking that if Obama could get his mother to pose nude before he was born, imagine what he'll do to your mom. This is certainly not an attempt to garner the youth vote, what young woman hasn't had her nude picture taken in these days of digital cameras and video phones?
Next up is the whole Barack Obama birth certificate scandal I received a call today from avid reader Susan, who asked me if it was true that Obama wasn't even born in this country, which, according to Snopes is true. Above is a copy of Sen. Obama's birth certificate, gleaned from the ultra left leaning LA Times This is a tactic that the Clinton campaign tried, look how well it worked for them!
But now Obama's father's identity is called in to question, from a Muslim to an avowed Communist, because everyone knows communism, like Islam,is passed genetically from one parent to the child.
Now we go on the Pennsylvania, where the state McCain campaign was quick to hype the attack hoax, has now been found to be sending out false Obama emails.
There's still a week and a half left. How low will the right wing dirty trick squad go? I believe they'd go to the pits of Hell if they thought it would change the outcome of this election.

Your God Is Anti-American
According to Sarah Palin, she is putting this in God’s hands that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on November 4th.. I thought the US was a democracy, where the right thing is decided by voters, and not by God, the Supreme Court, Diebold, or Republican voter caging efforts. the answer is simple.
The US (or "America", as simple minded people refer to it, forgetting that it also applies to Mexico and Canada) is a democracy. If God as defined by Sarah Palin steps in, then He (or She) is definitely undemocratic. Therefore, if God is undemocratic, that would mean that God is anti-American.
Did conservatives think the hand of God was in play when Bill Clinton was elected? How about Congressional races, aren't they as important? After all, under the American system of government, the power to pass bills,override vetoes, and confirm political appointees is in the hands of Congress, unless you believe that Alberto Gonzales John Yoo crap about a unitary executive (neocon speak for a dictator).
If this all powerful God actually cares about the human politics, why does he only participate in the American elections? Couldn't, say, Hugo Chavez make the same claim, that God has chosen him?
This weekend, I spied amongst the clutter of political lawn signs a sign for the National Day of Prayer To End Abortion. This has been happening since Reagan and the Republicans used abortion as their ticket to the White House. Since then, neither God nor the Republican party has done a thing to bring an end to abortion. One can then only conclude that a) God and the Republican Party don't really care about abortion, b) once the Republicans actually eliminate abortion, they have no other way to grab the vote of the Christian Right ( I mean, the party of Lincoln hasn't been very adept at hanging on to the black vote) and c)only the truly politically jaded would invoke God's name for political gain as well as the truly politically naive would believe that God has a party preference.

How indeed! It seems that one of the planks in the Republican platform this year is reform. Yeah, and when the junkie in charge of the medicine cabinet says he's going to fix things, he doesn't mean with a hammer and saw. And yet, there are people who are stupid enough to buy it, because like Junior O'Daniel, they are dim and thick and incurious.
The themes of the recent convention were all hypocritical in their own right, reform, service prosperity and peace.
Peace?
McCain has already suggested he may reinstate the draft, hardly something we'd need in a time of peace. And McCain was the one who was pushing for an invasion of Iraq on the morning of 9/11. With McCain's incompetent and poor VP pick has stated that war with Russia may be needed, and the imbecile-in-chief is sending special forces into Pakistan, there is no "peace" in the Republican agenda.
It's as if they just took buzzwords that resonate well with American voters and didn't put anything behind them. It's pointless and meaningless, like applying the term maverick to a politician who voted with the president over 90% of the time.

Give Them Something To Think About
So Adam McKay thinks the Democrats are going to lose this thing. Typical Democrat defeatist attitude, we can't win when the odds are stacked against us. I say if you feel that way, you're probably right, self-fulfilling prophecies and all. There is a way and it's a s simple as ythis:
If Sarah Palin couldn't protect her daughter from guys who wanted to screw with her, how's she going to protect us from terrorists who want to screw with us?
The RNC spent a lot of time and flag waving reminding us all of 9/11. But what they didn't tell us was that the whole thing could have been avoided if a president, their president had been a little more vigilant. We all know about the August 6 2001 PDB delivered to President Bush. If he had done his job as Commander-In-Chief, there would have been no tragedy on that day. He allowed the terrorists to screw with us.
If Sarah Palin couldn't protect her daughter from guys who wanted to screw with her, how's she going to protect us from terrorists who want to screw with us?
Sure, teenage pregnancies happen in the best of homes and is a fairly common occurrence. Teenagers always have and always will engage in premarital intercourse, it's a fact of life. Their hormones are beyond their control at that age, and they feel they are invincible. But just like the Republicans have sent our troops to face the enemy in Afghanistan and Iraq without sufficient body armor, Sarah Palin sent her daughter into an age old battle with out adequate protection.
If Sarah Palin couldn't protect her daughter from guys who wanted to screw with her, how's she going to protect us from terrorists who want to screw with us?
Barack Obama has stated that in this campaign, families should be left out of it. And under normal circumstances, that would be fine. But we're not dealing with human beings here, we're dealing with neocons. People with no conscience, because a conscience stands in the way between doing what's right, and fulfilling an unreal agenda. People who will do anything to win, which is why they always do. And if the situations were reversed, they'd make a field of hay from it, all to serve their own program: endless tax cuts for endless profits made from endless war. And to further their plan, they need to sell us their superiority in matters of national security.

Republicans Attempt To Dupe The Television Watchers
I'll admit that I haven't been watching the RNC. To me it seemed to be too much like American Idol, all ceremony and no substance. Who wants to watch a bunch of white people cheer and fight to keep their tax cuts for the millions they've made defrauding the American taxpayer in little thing called the war in Iraq? Who wants to see a bunch of racists criticize Sen. Obama for being uppity? No, I'd rather write questionable blog posts based on satirical pieces I took as truth (see previous post).
But now, I don't feel so bad about being suckered in, not after I read that fake soldiers were used in a video shown at the RNC. I guess they couldn't use real soldiers because Obama nets more military donors than John McCain. I guess they remember who cut their benefits in a time of war. And that;s something that all the flag waving and questionable displays of patriotism can't cover up.

The Party's Over Before It Even Begins
The McCain-Palin ticket plays out like one bad sitcom: He's the gruff but hotheaded senior senator from Arizona, she's his impossibly hot but shrewish(running)mate, can they learn to get along? Wackiness ensues!
In the meantime, the opening ceremonies for the Republican convention have been canceled due to Hurricane Gustav heading towards New Orleans. I guess one mass of hot air threatening the country was enough! Maybe no one will notice all the missing Senate Republicans, avoiding being branded by the brand the Bush administration completely destroyed, in part due to their police state tactics.

Mr. 9/11 To Address Republican Convention
Rudy Giuliani is set to give the keynote address at the Republican convention in September. The theme for his address will be "Country First", a bit hypocritical when you realize that John McCain has a plan to send 8000 jobs out of Ohio. Four days will be devoted to "service, reform, prosperity and peace".
So we know what to expect from this farce, lots of flag waving and invocations of 9/11 from the man who destroyed the evidence from the Twin Towers before forensics could examine it. And for all you beer swilling television watching morons who think that the explosion from the full fuel tanks caused the steel to melt, steel melts at 2500 degrees Farenheit , jet fuel, which is essentially modified kerosene, has a flash point of 1200 degrees Farenheit, less than the half required to melt the steel frames. And if you think that items within the structure burned hot enough to melt the frames, let's hope you're not meaning the fire retardant asbestos which filled the building and would have cost the Port Authority over $1 billion dollars to have removed. Perhaps Rudy was trying to hide the evidence of thermate on physical samples.
So the GOP will wave flags and prattle on about service, like how their candidate served his country in a POW camp in North Vietnam, reform, which is kind of hard to run on when you're the incumbent, prosperity, which means that the base has gotten richer while the rest of us struggle under their middle class breaking policies, and peace, from the party of the administration that has started more wars than it has troops to fight, and always based on the most specious reasoning. All of this will be brought to you courtesy of ExxonMobil, which is one of the companies doing extremely well under the Bush regime, and certainly will try to ensure they squeeze every last drop of blood from the working class in the McCain administration.

The Election Is The Democrats To Blow
One of the two Democratic front runners should step down (actually, there's only one front runner and a second place person trying to redefine the rules to their advantage) not for the sake of the party, but for the sake of the country. By extending the nomination process well into June now, what with the possibility of a Michigan do over, (and trust me Senator Clinton, you will not win that) you are allowing the Republican nominee to define the issues and continue feeding right wing misinformation to the public, with a little help from the corporate media.
Even though violence has increased in Iraq and the Iraqi leadership has fallen short of goals set, John McCain is basing his campaign on foreign issues such as Iraq. Support for the war is at it's highest level since 2006, likely because the Pentagon has canceled release of a report confirming the fact that the war was based on lies. This is all information that a Democratic front runner could use, if they didn't have to spend this time fighting for a nomination that will seem less likely to win once the disinformation takes hold in the mind of the average American television watcher. And the war in Afghanistan is going so well, that NATO is approaching Russia to come to our aid, which is odd, since we originally backed the mujahedeen there to keep the Russians out.
The Democrats need to point out the collapse of the dollar, the falling stock market and the prospect of a severe recession, all products of a driving US economy driven too long with Republicans at the wheel. But they can't do that by bickering over who gets to be the nominee, statements made by supporters and other non-issues that will rapidly begin to turn off voters on either side of the party. One of the two nominees needs to be a bigger person and step aside, but unfortunately, if one of them were to do that, the one that did would probably be better suited to be our next president.
Meanwhile, John McCain can make ludicrous claims about al Qaeda trying to tip the US election, and there's no one there to call bullshit on that because they're too busy arguing over things Geraldine Ferraro or the Reverend Jeremiah Wright have said (no matter how right the reverend is)which is irrelevant to the fact that the US is no longer the greatest economy in the world

You Have Been Played
The US is concerned because China has increased it's defense budget by 17 percent because it's unclear as to what China's intentions are. Even with the Chinese increase, it is still but a fraction of what we spend on our defense budget ourselves. We spend nearly as much as the rest of the world combined does on our military, and yet, we are still worried about national security in this election.
The economy is slipping into a recession, the dollar is falling as the price of oil rises, and all any of our presidential candidates can use to mobilize voters is fear. Not fear that the economy is in rubble, but fear of attacks from people with no standing armies on the other side of the world. People, you have been played.
Since we are outspending the rest of the world on security, we should be fairly secure, whether it's a high noon or three o'clock in the morning. If we are not, than we are spending way too much money on a system with no guarantees. The US is involved in two wars, fighting the alleged enemy, which has not made of safer than we were before the wars, and has, in fact attracted more people to the cause of the "Islamofascist". These wars, which were supposed to be relatively cheap(around $60 billion, according to administration officials) has actually cost us trillions of dollars. They are a drain on our economy and yet not one single presidential front runner has suggested we end these boondoggled quagmires.
There is one candidate who thinks we should cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget, or that we should reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East. Unfortunately, the nation of television-watchers, with their minds turned to mush from being fed a diet of constant fear are being herded like lambs to slaughter by the corpocracy's lesser of two evil strategies that will have people actually not voting for a decent candidate with good ideas, but against a candidate with whom they do not like.
Suckers.

Who To Believe...........
In crisis management, the first step is admitting there is a problem. The second step is indentifying the cause of the problem. Of course, if you have caused the problem yourself, the first thing you do is deny there is a problem, or try to blame others for the problem that doesn't exist.
Our president denies there is a problem, or that it's not as big of a problem as we're being led to believe. Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz says there is a problem, caused in part by the war in Iraq. So who do you believe? An imbecile who can't open his mouth without letting a plethora of untruths fly forth, or a respected economist. Hmmm. That is a poser.
This really illustrates the disparity between the two Americas. On the one hand, there's the billionaires who are making money in this economy, and they don't really feel the pinch of $3+ a gallon gas and rising prices for everything else, then there's people who work everyday and have to figure out how to make do with less because some greedy bastard doesn't have enough yet. And that's a situation that's not going to change until we get a government that works for everybody.

A Torture Romance
The Senate has voted 51-45 to prohibit waterboarding and other harsh methods of interrogation (i.e., torture) with Sen John McCain voting against the measure. Surely this is a bid to woo the sick fucks that are conservatives and prove he's just as soulless and evil as they and their president are, so pretty soon the endorsements will come rolling in. Bush is already planning on vetoing the bill, because we need to get people to confess to crimes others have committed to enable the loss of our civil liberties in the so-called war on terror.
