Socialized Heroin

“How can our kids say no when the adults around them are saying yes?” asked Aimee Hendle, a spokeswoman for Californians for Drug Free Youth.
Yes the rhetoric is heating up in California, where an initiative to legalize marijuana has been placed on the ballot. Does making something legal that was once illegal make it all better?
How about all those people sitting in jails for mere possession, will they be released? What about all the law enforcement people and companies that profit from terrorizing pot heads? Will this make it illegal to not hire someone because they tested positive for marijuana in a drug test?
But what about the children?
Ironically, a world away, as right wingers fear the release of the killer weed into the mainstream of public altered consciousness, NATO has rejected Russia's call to spray the poppy fields of Afghanistan. And not even all of the poppy fields, merely twenty five percent. So what does that say to the paranoiacs of California who think the cultivation of pot is really bad when their tax dollars are going to support the cultivation of the opium poppy?

Two Wars We're Not Fighting

Does anybody remember the war on drugs? You know, the multi-billion dollar enterprise started during the Reagan administration to rid the world of the scourge of drug use. We passed tougher laws, suspended suspects rights, all in the name of protecting our children from the very evil and nefarious type who would push their dope upon them. Same with the war on terror. How's that working out?
Not too good. It seems that Hamid Karzai, US puppet "president" of Afghanistan pardoned five heroin traffickers, and his brother has been linked by the US military to Afghan drug lords. Meanwhile, prisons here in the US are filled with pot smokers, who might buy Grateful Dead recordings, tie dye perfectly good white tee shirts, and grow hideously unsanitary dread locks. Why are they locked away? Well, we're told that some of that drug money goes to fund terrorism.
And what exactly is terrorism? The calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious. So when Newt Gingrich proposes US sabotage against Iran's oil and gas infrastructure, that qualifies as terrorism. Except that the money for this proposed act isn't filtered through pot smokers. No, this comes directly from the US taxpayer.
Imagine you're working at one of Iran's many gas and/or oil structures, not really liking your job, or your government for that matter, but hey, that's capitalism. Suddenly, through no fault of your own, your body and limbs are rendered from each other and you find that the promise of paradise wasn't for real. Americans got real pissed when Neda was shot on camera, this is the same thing, except, we're killing in the name of Jesus based capitalism, so that makes it OK.

WAR! WAR! WAR!

First, the war on Christmas....

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 34-year-old employee, a temporary maintenance worker, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

Only in America. One day you're spending your Thanksgiving holiday with your family, the next day, hundreds of people overcome with the spirit of goodwill to men are leaving their bootprints on your body as they fight their way to get at the limited quantity big screen TVs.
Next, the war on drugs.....

The United States' war on drugs has failed and will continue to do so as long as it emphasizes law enforcement and neglects the problem of consumption, a Washington think tank says in a report co-chaired by a former president of Mexico.

What are you going to do? The government imports the drugs, then privatizes the prison industry so they can make a profit from the incarceration of all the people using the drugs you smuggled in and abuse them while their at it.
People have been cultivating pot for smoking since before Jesus, perhaps the US needs to re-examine it's drug laws and policies rather than lock people away for recreational drug use.
Finally, the war on terror.....
George W Bush says he wants his legacy to be that of a liberator of millions. Sure, he liberated millions of Iraqis from this mortal coil and still terrorists keep attacking people. This is your legacy.
